Having spent the past month answering questions about how much he still has to prove, Buffalo Bills quarterback Trent Edwards is eager to finally get an opportunity to show what he can do on the field. In this Aug. 16, 2008 file photo, New York Jets quarterback Brett Favre throws a pass during warm-ups of an NFL preseason football game against the Washington Redskins at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. Miami Dolphins quarterback Chad Pennington, who became expendable in New York when the Jets acquired Brett Favre, will face his former team and the quarterback who replaced him in the season opener Sunday.

Chad Pennington fondly recalls the first game of his NFL career, even though he didn't play. He was the third-string quarterback for the New York Jets, who beat the Green Bay Packers and Brett Favre. "My first opening day," Pennington said Wednesday. "Having a chance to go to Lambeau Field for the first time, that was unbelievable.  read more »

O'Neal thrilled to be with Patriots (AP)

New England Patriots defensive back Deltha O'Neal (21) newly signed from the Cincinnati Bengals waiver wire is seen at his first day with the Patriots during football practice in Foxborough, Mass., Monday, Sept. 1, 2008.

Deltha O'Neal flew home on his day off and talked with his puzzled 6-year-old daughter about his new job. "She's really excited for me," the two-time Pro Bowl cornerback said. "She's like, `you're no longer a Bengal. What are you?' I'm a Patriot." And thrilled to be one. Blind-sided by his release by Cincinnati on Saturday, O'Neal didn't have much time to be disappointed.  read more »
