Broncos 2008 Schedule - Official Release

Three prime-time games as well as four home games in a five-week span highlight the Denver Broncos' 2008 regular-season schedule, which was released by the National Football League on Tuesday. The Broncos are set to appear twice on ESPN's Monday Night Football and once on NFL Network's Thursday Night Football in addition to hosting four opponents in the five-game period between Weeks 2-6.

The Broncos kick off their 49th season of professional football on Sept. 8 with a national television appearance, facing the Oakland Raiders on ESPN's Monday Night Football at 7:15 p.m. PDT at McAfee Coliseum. Denver plays its first of two consecutive games at INVESCO Field at Mile High the following week with its home opener against defending AFC-West champion San Diego on Sunday, Sept. 14, at 2:15 p.m. MDT.  read more »

John Lynch: The Decision, Part Three

John Lynch: The Decision, Part Three

This is a four part article that will be taking a look at one of the best safeties to ever play the game, John Lynch. A decision about his retirement looms, and its ripple effect will be felt throughout the Broncos organization as everything from the Free Agency period to their potentially strong, 8-pick draft will be shaped and altered by whichever lot he tosses into the murky pool that is the Broncos' defensive future. Will it be the decision to retire, leaving $2 mil on the table? Will it be the decision to return, possibly having to accept less playing time and risking injury?

MHR's own Hoosierteacher took some time to look at the John Lynch situation with me, and provided some of his excellent knowledge and analysis of not only Lynch but of the difficult and oft misunderstood nature of the position he plays. We will be getting his take on the situation throughout this series.  read more »

Your Weekly Roy Williams Rumors

It wouldn't be a true Monday without the usual Roy Williams trade rumors, so luckily it is in fact a true Monday as this week's gossip comes from Philadelphia.

Mike Quick who is the analyst for the Eagles games with Merrill Reese says there will be news about Roy Williams before the week is out.

Mike Quick says he thinks the Birds are going to make a major move at the wide receiver position.  He talked about Roy Williams and the potential that the Eagles will make a deal to acquire a wide receiver.  He says there will be news on Roy Williams before the week is out.

That means the Cowboys, Redskins or the Eagles will probably wind up with the receiver before the week is out.  read more »

A Brief Look at Recent Four Win Teams

If we learned anything about the football in 2007, we were reminded that the slate is wiped clean each year in the NFL. Teams that barely kept their head above water in 2006 -- the Packers, Browns and Jaguars for example -- came roaring back in 2007. The structure of the NFL is designed to reward teams that play poorly and move the league towards parity.

With no statistical point to make, I've reviewed the recent history of teams that went 4-12 and how they did the following season. You'll notice a few teams that made huge jumps but you'll also notice that most teams won only a couple more games than they did the previous season. If the Chiefs ended next season at .500, I'd be very satisfied.  read more »

Arrowhead Pride Community Mock Draft -- Pick #48 by the Atlanta Falcons

And with the 48th pick in the 2008 Arrowhead Pride Community Mock Draft, the Atlanta Falcons select:

Oklahoma CB Reggie Smith

Draft Profile

Chris with the pick:

With CB DeAngelo Hall now an Oakland Raider, it makes a lot of sense for the Falcons to use their third pick of the second round on a solid cornerback. The current bunch of CBs and DBs on the Falcons are extremely young, meaning a player like Reggie Smith could step in immediately amidst the current competition.

A first-team All-Big 12 selection, this is about the time in the draft that most have Smith going. A good value for the Falcons third pick of the second round.

Arrowhead Pride Community Mock Draft -- Pick #46 by the Arizona Cardinals

And with the 46th pick in the 2008 Arrowhead Pride Community Mock Draft, the Arizona Cardinals select:

Oklahoma ILB Curtis Lofton

Draft Profile

jimme with the pick:

He is the BPA at this time, and I'm not overly impressed with the Cards LBers. Lofton should be able to play inside in the Cards hybrid defense, both in the 4-3 and 3-4.  read more »
