The 2008 NFL Draft Winners and Losers: THE AFC DRAFT REVIEW By Rick Weaver : Carolina Panthers NFL Columnist KANSAS CITY CHIEFS "A+" WINNER The Kansas City Chiefs had multiple needs going into draft day and they had 13 picks to work with. Thanks to a deal with the Minnesota Vikings the Chiefs traded away pro-bowl defensive end Jared Allen and received the Vikings 1st round, 17th pick overall and they got both of the Vikings 3rd round picks, plus the teams swapped their draft positions in the 6th round. Allen was statistically the best defensive end in the NFL last year with 15 1/2 sacks while playing in only 14 games. Allen was one of the bright spots on a team that was reportedly "rebuilding" last season. read more »
All discussion of the NFL Draft's second day can be found in this thread. If you have a comment, then leave one here. I will keep this thread updated anytime something interesting or related to the Lions happens.
To start the day off, Detroit moved up to become the first team on the clock in the third-round. They traded ahead of the St. Louis Rams and got Miami's third-round pick, but I don't see why they felt a need to move up. I believe it was a sixth-round pick they gave up, so it'll be interesting to hear the reasoning behind that.
Detroit ended up moving ahead to take Central Florida running back Kevin Smith with the 64th pick of the draft. As I said earlier today, I expected the Lions to draft a running back first, and that's exactly what they did. That need is gone as Smith brings a lot to the game of football. I'll have more on him later, but before I end this update, remember, he challenged Barry Sander's college rushing record last season. read more »

John Lynch: The Decision, Part Three
This is a four part article that will be taking a look at one of the best safeties to ever play the game, John Lynch. A decision about his retirement looms, and its ripple effect will be felt throughout the Broncos organization as everything from the Free Agency period to their potentially strong, 8-pick draft will be shaped and altered by whichever lot he tosses into the murky pool that is the Broncos' defensive future. Will it be the decision to retire, leaving $2 mil on the table? Will it be the decision to return, possibly having to accept less playing time and risking injury?
MHR's own Hoosierteacher took some time to look at the John Lynch situation with me, and provided some of his excellent knowledge and analysis of not only Lynch but of the difficult and oft misunderstood nature of the position he plays. We will be getting his take on the situation throughout this series. read more »
And with the 46th pick in the 2008 Arrowhead Pride Community Mock Draft, the Arizona Cardinals select:
Oklahoma ILB Curtis Lofton
jimme with the pick:
He is the BPA at this time, and I'm not overly impressed with the Cards LBers. Lofton should be able to play inside in the Cards hybrid defense, both in the 4-3 and 3-4. read more »
