Last night, prior to Game 1 of the NBA's Eastern Conference Finals between the Detroit Pistons and the Boston Celtics, the NBA did their official lottery to determine the draft positions of the 14 NBA teams that didn't make the post-season. The Minnesota Timberwolves (the official NBA team of The Daily Norseman) will pick third overall when the NBA's selection meeting is held in about five weeks.
(This will probably result in the Wolves selecting either Brook Lopez or Kevin Love, which will indirectly result in me attempting to jump off of the roof of my house. But I digress.) read more »
And with the 48th pick in the 2008 Arrowhead Pride Community Mock Draft, the Atlanta Falcons select:
Oklahoma CB Reggie Smith
Chris with the pick:
With CB DeAngelo Hall now an Oakland Raider, it makes a lot of sense for the Falcons to use their third pick of the second round on a solid cornerback. The current bunch of CBs and DBs on the Falcons are extremely young, meaning a player like Reggie Smith could step in immediately amidst the current competition.
A first-team All-Big 12 selection, this is about the time in the draft that most have Smith going. A good value for the Falcons third pick of the second round.
And with the 46th pick in the 2008 Arrowhead Pride Community Mock Draft, the Arizona Cardinals select:
Oklahoma ILB Curtis Lofton
jimme with the pick:
He is the BPA at this time, and I'm not overly impressed with the Cards LBers. Lofton should be able to play inside in the Cards hybrid defense, both in the 4-3 and 3-4. read more »
This is the first in what should be an occasional feature at Field Gulls. On slower weeks I'm not going to make sense of minutiae, or pretend that every pen that falls in the Seahawks front office makes a thunderclap. This last week, though, was packed full, and the seeds it sowed will define future seasons.
Before I get into all this, let me throw out a few baseline beliefs:
It was Green's 78-yard run in 2002 that gave the Browns their only post season appearance since their return. Sometimes in life you need more than an initial chance to reach your full potential. For various reasons, some incomprehendable in an individuals background; there's an underlying reason for why things do not workout. Some have faith that 'everything happens for a reason'. read more »

Sometimes when I tell people I fear I'll never see the Vikings win a Super Bowl, they try to assure me that I will. I'm young, and there are a lot of years left--chances are they'll win a title sometime. But "Why?" I say. The Cubs haven't won a championship in 100 years--I'm sure some Cubs fans in the last century were assured by friends that the odds are they'll see a Cub World Series win, but most assuredly some of those Cubs fans are now dead. read more »
