SO WHERE WAS THIS GAME ON THE ALL-TIME LIST?

by Thermocaster, The Meaningful Collateral

It's always dangerous to do too much projection and/or pontification regarding sporting events in the days that immediately follow. We get in a rush to place ourselves on one side or the other of an event, and we end up making foolish, foolish statements.  read more »

Know Your NFL Combine: An MHR 2008 Draft Resource

Welcome to the first of a planned extensive line of Resources for the Denver Broncos fan, courtesy of the many minds here at MHR. This initial foray is intended to garner some feedback from the MHR community, and to kick start the finetuning process so that the greatest Draft Resource for Broncos fans on the web will be as good as we can make it!

I would like to start with the Combine, which is right around the corner, starting February 20th and continuing until the 26th. We have many new fans who frequent this site, and not all of them may understand just what the Combine is, or where it fits in the grand scheme of the NFL universe. Fear not! John Lynch: The Decision, Part Three

John Lynch: The Decision, Part Three

This is a four part article that will be taking a look at one of the best safeties to ever play the game, John Lynch. A decision about his retirement looms, and its ripple effect will be felt throughout the Broncos organization as everything from the Free Agency period to their potentially strong, 8-pick draft will be shaped and altered by whichever lot he tosses into the murky pool that is the Broncos' defensive future. Will it be the decision to retire, leaving $2 mil on the table? Will it be the decision to return, possibly having to accept less playing time and risking injury?

MHR's own Hoosierteacher took some time to look at the John Lynch situation with me, and provided some of his excellent knowledge and analysis of not only Lynch but of the difficult and oft misunderstood nature of the position he plays. We will be getting his take on the situation throughout this series.  read more »

NFL considers changes in Playoff seeding

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The NFL is considering changing the postseason so seeding would be based on records rather than division titles. That won't avoid instances like the one last season when Cleveland missed the playoffs and Tennessee made it by beating Indianapolis backups. But competition committee members agreed Thursday that changing the seeding guidelines would result in fewer such situations. Committee co-chairman Rich McKay, the Atlanta Falcons' president, said some clubs had indicated support for the changes.  read more »

Prelude To A Comback? John Lynch Named To Pro Bowl

Denver Broncos safety John Lynch has been named to the AFC Pro Bowl roster, the National Football League informed the Broncos on Tuesday.

Lynch initially was selected as a first alternate to the league's annual all-star game, but an injury to Indianapolis safety Bob Sanders resulted in him being chosen to participate in the Pro Bowl for the fourth consecutive season and ninth time in his career.

His nine career Pro Bowl selections as a safety mark the second-highest total in NFL history, trailing only the 10 Pro Bowl nominations earned by Ken Houston from 1970-79 with the Oilers and Redskins. Lynch joins cornerback Champ Bailey as the Broncos' representatives at the Pro Bowl, which will be played on Sunday, Feb. 10, at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu at 2:30 p.m. MST and televised by FOX.  read more »

Arrowhead Pride Community Mock Draft -- Pick #48 by the Atlanta Falcons

And with the 48th pick in the 2008 Arrowhead Pride Community Mock Draft, the Atlanta Falcons select:

Oklahoma CB Reggie Smith

Draft Profile

Chris with the pick:

With CB DeAngelo Hall now an Oakland Raider, it makes a lot of sense for the Falcons to use their third pick of the second round on a solid cornerback. The current bunch of CBs and DBs on the Falcons are extremely young, meaning a player like Reggie Smith could step in immediately amidst the current competition.

A first-team All-Big 12 selection, this is about the time in the draft that most have Smith going. A good value for the Falcons third pick of the second round.

Arrowhead Pride Community Mock Draft -- Pick #46 by the Arizona Cardinals

And with the 46th pick in the 2008 Arrowhead Pride Community Mock Draft, the Arizona Cardinals select:

Oklahoma ILB Curtis Lofton

Draft Profile

jimme with the pick:

He is the BPA at this time, and I'm not overly impressed with the Cards LBers. Lofton should be able to play inside in the Cards hybrid defense, both in the 4-3 and 3-4.  read more »
