The top 10 RB's from Texas

WOW there's some greats in here
10. Greg Pruitt, Houston: Another Texan who played college football at Oklahoma, Pruitt rushed for 1,665 yards for the Sooners in 1971 and finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting. The next year, he finished second. Pruitt, who played at Elmore High, was a second-round selection of the Cleveland Browns in the 1973 NFL Draft. He was a five-time Pro Bowl selection and finished his 11-year career with 5,672 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns.  read more »

Panther Pro Day Update

Here's every Pro Day workout report I can find that mentions Panthers personnel in attendance. Most were very expected but a couple I found surprising. (Reported via Scout.com)

Notre Dame (March 19)
20 teams were present, including defensive line coaches from Cincinnati and Carolina to watch nine players work out indoors on field turf.

» DL Trevor Laws (6-0 ¾, 304): Only ran position drills and kept the rest of his numbers from the combine.

I love Trevor Laws and hope we land him in the 2nd round.  read more »

Broncos 2008 Schedule - Official Release

Three prime-time games as well as four home games in a five-week span highlight the Denver Broncos' 2008 regular-season schedule, which was released by the National Football League on Tuesday. The Broncos are set to appear twice on ESPN's Monday Night Football and once on NFL Network's Thursday Night Football in addition to hosting four opponents in the five-game period between Weeks 2-6.

The Broncos kick off their 49th season of professional football on Sept. 8 with a national television appearance, facing the Oakland Raiders on ESPN's Monday Night Football at 7:15 p.m. PDT at McAfee Coliseum. Denver plays its first of two consecutive games at INVESCO Field at Mile High the following week with its home opener against defending AFC-West champion San Diego on Sunday, Sept. 14, at 2:15 p.m. MDT.  read more »

A Brief Look at Recent Four Win Teams

If we learned anything about the football in 2007, we were reminded that the slate is wiped clean each year in the NFL. Teams that barely kept their head above water in 2006 -- the Packers, Browns and Jaguars for example -- came roaring back in 2007. The structure of the NFL is designed to reward teams that play poorly and move the league towards parity.

With no statistical point to make, I've reviewed the recent history of teams that went 4-12 and how they did the following season. You'll notice a few teams that made huge jumps but you'll also notice that most teams won only a couple more games than they did the previous season. If the Chiefs ended next season at .500, I'd be very satisfied.  read more »

Senator Asks NFL To Recognize Additional Team For Mercury Morris To Taunt [Don't Blame Me, I Voted For Mike DeWine]

sherrodbigdawgbrown.jpgEvery current NFL city has at least played in or hosted a Super Bowl, with the exception of ... you guessed it, Cleveland. So I guess there's no reason to discuss them at hahaha I had you going there for a second.

Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown wrote a letter to NFL conquistador d'amore Roger Goodell, imploring him to recognize the 1948 Cleveland Browns as one of two -- aw, who are we kidding, three -- perfect teams in pro football history:

Dear Commissioner Goodell,

I want to bring to your attention a disparity in the records of professional football. While the National Football League (NFL) compiles player statistics from the All-America Football Conference (AAFC), it does not capture team and championship records.  read more »

SCRAWLER: FIVE REASONS TO LOVE/LOATHE THE NFL DRAFT

By The Backyard Scrawler backyardscrawl@gmail.com For someone who fancies Pittsburgh sports talk at the water cooler by day and on the bar stool by night, a passerby posed a question to me the other day that stopped me dead in my tracks: So who do you think theyll get in the second round? I was aghast, not knowing whether to slap this person for asking such a presumptuous question or bear-hug him in hopes of consoling each others obsession over predicting next weeks NFL Draft. I mean, for the love of Mel Kiper, how on earth can you guess who the Steelers are going to take with the 53rd overall pick if you dont know who they are selecting at 23? But if youve determined picks 1 through 52 off the top of your head then, boy, I must salute your savvy fanhood. To play along I started spitting out some scenarios that involved Boston College OT Gosder Cherilus in the first round and Maryland DT Dre Moore in the second. You know, if they are both available. It was only then my curious inquisitor crinkled his brow and interrupted me as if we were speaking in different tongues. No, the Penguins, who do you think theyll play in the next round? Forgive me, Mark Madden, for I have sinned. How could my Pittsburgh sporting interest wander astray at time when my local hockey teams needs my undivided attention? This is the exact type of sentiment that will carry a three-hour Junker & Crow Jagoff of the Week show on ESPN Radio, so Ill spare you the drivel. But it seems nowadays you are scorned in this town, at least on talk radio and in the blogosphere, for thinking the Steelers are relevant in the offseason with all the Penguins success. Anyway, there are a lot of mixed feelings on the NFL Draft, though the TV ratings say otherwise. In the spirit of that, here are Five Reasons to Love and Loathe the NFL Draft. Sports fans thrive on debates. Who your team should select is the penultimate discussion. Add in the incremental clues as other teams make their selections and one could turn their living room into a war room. The reasons shows like American Idol are so popular is that they enable viewers to become experts and discuss who they think should be picked. Although imagine having delusional contestants show up at the Combine only to throw a fit when they are told they arent draft-worthy. Or, image having Steeler Nation text OT or DT during the Draft to determine the pick. Who needs Kevin Colbert?  read more »

Speed Demons for The 2008 NFL Draft

Every Year there are several players drafted that may not be the fastest but can make plays based on heart and determination and instincts. The following players can make plays with pure speed which is the only thing a coach cant teach. They can also win any track meet. They will be deep threat wide receivers and home run threat running backs and even safeties and quarterbacks with uncanny speed for their positions. They may not be all big names but dont let this fool you. I expect many of them to make a huge impact in the NFL.  read more »

Ben Roethlisberger vs. The NFL QB Crop

We looked at the RBs. Then did so more closely. Now, a gander at the QBs in the National Football League. Again, this is just subjective opining from me, and I'm not evaluating careers, just who I think is the better bet at QB for the future.

Browns to Battle Super Bowl Champions

The 2007-2008 season is officially over (Pro Bowl is merely for entertainment's sake).

For those of you that are Cleveland Indians fans, perhaps you've taken some joy in the sudden downfall of Boston teams the past few days. On Sunday, the Patriots lost the Super Bowl to the New York Giants. Last night, the Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Boston Celtics at The Q, improving to 2-1 against them on the season. One thing stands out about the Boston teams still though: they are in the spotlight. Cleveland teams have approached that spotlight over the past year, but have come up short.

-The Indians barely missed making the World Series.
-The Cavs were a disappointment in the NBA Finals.
-The Browns undeservedly missed the postseason.  read more »

RUN WILLIAM RUN! One more time?

It was Green's 78-yard run in 2002 that gave the Browns their only post season appearance since their return. Sometimes in life you need more than an initial chance to reach your full potential. For various reasons, some incomprehendable in an individuals background; there's an underlying reason for why things do not workout. Some have faith that 'everything happens for a reason'.  read more »
