Winners and Losers of the 2008 NFL Draft: NFC

The rich got richer in the 2008 NFL Draft as many of the teams with the highest marks in my book were also teams that went deep into the playoffs in 2007 and look to be there again in 2008 with an infusion of NFL ready young talent. Here is how I graded out the NFC: The winners: Dallas Cowboys: A The Cowboys come up a winner in the 2008 draft in part because they obtained an additional 1st round pick from Cleveland for the acquisition of Brady Quinn last year. The Cowboys made the most of their fortune by grabbing a great complimentary back in Felix Jones even though Rashard Mendenhall was still on the board. I think Dallas went into this draft targeting Jones because he would be a great second punch after Marion Barber.  read more »

Reid Touches All Bases In Combine Kickoff

I did not right this dave sparro did of the eagles news reports......
Head coach Andy Reid arrived at the NFL Scouting Combine on Thursday and sat down with the Philadelphia-area reporters on hand and touched on a variety of subjects -- the Combine and draft process, what the Eagles need to do in the offseason to vault back to the top of the NFC East, quarterback Donovan McNabb and even the league's ongoing "Spygate" case involving the New England Patriots.
Reid, who missed last year's Combine as he took his leave of absence from the team to attend to family matters, is looking forward to reaching out and meeting this year's draft prospects. The Eagles have 60 interviews, 15 minutes each in length, lined up for the next week.  read more »

Reid Touches All Bases In Combine Kickoff - By: Dave Spadaro

I did not write this. Dave Spadaro Eagles News reporter did.

10 bold predictions for the NFL offseason

HA here we go again,-check PREDICTION NUMBER 4......
Fret not, football fans. Sure, the games are over but the NFL now is a year-round pastime. There's almost as much intrigue from February to June as there is from July to January. Here are ten things that could happen in the coming months:
1. Defensive linemen will cash in

The success of the New York Giants confirmed that one of the most critical components of a successful NFL team is an overpowering defensive line. Having four men who can pressure quarterbacks without blitz help allows the other seven defenders to cover the five (at most) eligible receivers.  read more »

Active offseason for the Eagles in the making

The Eagles unceremoniously finished their 2007 season by missing the playoffs. The fact that this was barely newsworthy outside of Philadelphia is precisely why this off-season will be an active one for the birds. Jeff Lurie's view of his team is that of a perennial contender and one of the premier franchises in the league. The fact that it's not major league-wide news that the Eagles failed to reach the postseason, Lurie will make sure that this is an active offseason that draw attention back to his franchise, demonstrating that they should (not necessarily will) contend for a Lombardi trophy. This year Mr. Lurie has watched the Patriots, who he enjoys comparing his franchise to, run over the rest of the league on their way to a perfect regular season.  read more »

Iggles Corner - 1/25/08 - NFL Draft

So the NFL Playoffs are all but done with, and the Super Bowl is just on the horizon. But my team isn't playing in the Big Game, and even though I plan on watching Super Bowl XLII my sights are truly set on the 2008 NFL College draft. It is one of two things that I truly look forward to come springtime; the other is opening day with the Phillies of course. Now even though our Philadelphia Eagles finished with a record of eight and eight, they still have a fairly high pick with the nineteenth selection overall. Now a lot of experts believe that all the true game-breakers will be taken by nineteen. But I disagree. So I am going to breakdown who I believe the Eagles are going to select at number nineteen.  read more »

411's NFL Round Up 2.12.08

The NFL trade that needs to happen, massive rebuilding in Dolphin Land, and keeping natural grass alive in the Steel City. All this and more in the Round Up.
So now is the time when that terrible, sad, empty feeling can really take full effect. The NFL season is officially over until August. I know this is going to be a difficult journey. It is every off-season. But with a little patience, I think we will all be able to manage. The NFL has amazingly made itself watchable even during the off-season, with free-agency and of course, THE DRAFT. But we will all come to that during the course of the year. As for now, we have a whole host of questions going into the off-season about what we will have in store for next season.

how to court chad johnson

Well for starters, it can't be that hard. The Eagles haven't had any players arrested recently (just the coach's sons). In 2008 the Birds will be an angry team looking to get back on top of the NFC East. The defense will have to improve some but just for a second allow yourself to daydream about how the Eagles would play with #85 in midnight green. Downtown Reggie Brown isn't exactly turning out to be the #1 receiver we had hoped and having the elusive Kevin Curtis as a #2 is always a great Plan B. Before we get too excited let's just assess the facts and even see if this is possible. Donovan McNabb publicly pleaded for playmakers on his blog. Brian Westbrook backed him up. Chad Johnson says he wants to play for a contender.  read more »

2008 Fantasy Football Projections - Philadelphia Eagles

Determined to reclaim the starting quarterback position with authority after backup Jeff Garcia led the Philadelphia Eagles to a playoff berth in 2006, Donovan McNabb started the season in solid fashion. The sports hernia injury he suffered that paved the way for Jeff Garcia two years ago was healed and McNabb proved he still had it in him as he played in 14 games the most since 2004 and threw for 3,324 yards, 19 touchdowns and seven interceptions while completing 61.5 percent of his passes. Unfortunately, the Eagles did not have the playmakers necessary for the rest of the offense to succeed as the team fizzled its way to an 8-8 record.  read more »
