On how the Eagles got a home game on Thanksgiving Day: "It's really all driven by the league. When you have an unusual date, they usually call just to make sure there's no security concern or any logistical problems or other events. We didn't know who we were playing, but they did call us not too long ago to give us a heads up in case there was anything for us to alert them to. It's neat and exciting. We were actually thrilled." On whether the league gives the team any say on the schedule: "They don't really give you permission to say 'yes' or 'no.' They ask, 'Are there any other conflicts? read more »
I did not right this dave sparro did of the eagles news reports......
Head coach Andy Reid arrived at the NFL Scouting Combine on Thursday and sat down with the Philadelphia-area reporters on hand and touched on a variety of subjects -- the Combine and draft process, what the Eagles need to do in the offseason to vault back to the top of the NFC East, quarterback Donovan McNabb and even the league's ongoing "Spygate" case involving the New England Patriots.
Reid, who missed last year's Combine as he took his leave of absence from the team to attend to family matters, is looking forward to reaching out and meeting this year's draft prospects. The Eagles have 60 interviews, 15 minutes each in length, lined up for the next week. read more »
I did not write this. Dave Spadaro Eagles News reporter did. The Eagles unceremoniously finished their 2007 season by missing the playoffs. The fact that this was barely newsworthy outside of Philadelphia is precisely why this off-season will be an active one for the birds. Jeff Lurie's view of his team is that of a perennial contender and one of the premier franchises in the league. The fact that it's not major league-wide news that the Eagles failed to reach the postseason, Lurie will make sure that this is an active offseason that draw attention back to his franchise, demonstrating that they should (not necessarily will) contend for a Lombardi trophy. This year Mr. Lurie has watched the Patriots, who he enjoys comparing his franchise to, run over the rest of the league on their way to a perfect regular season. read more »
So the NFL Playoffs are all but done with, and the Super Bowl is just on the horizon. But my team isn't playing in the Big Game, and even though I plan on watching Super Bowl XLII my sights are truly set on the 2008 NFL College draft. It is one of two things that I truly look forward to come springtime; the other is opening day with the Phillies of course. Now even though our Philadelphia Eagles finished with a record of eight and eight, they still have a fairly high pick with the nineteenth selection overall. Now a lot of experts believe that all the true game-breakers will be taken by nineteen. But I disagree. So I am going to breakdown who I believe the Eagles are going to select at number nineteen. read more »
The rumors of a possible Tony Gonzalez deal have begun to swirl. This weekend, the future hall of famer has confirmed his desire to be traded "The Chiefs have a three-year plan to make this team good," Gonzalez said late last night. "They are going young and at this point in my career, I want to play for a known contender a team that has a chance to get to win the Super Bowl before my career ends. If it doesn't happen, of course I'll play my butt off at the same level I always have. But by the time their plan comes to fruition I'll be finishing up my career." After the jump yophillybro has several sources discussing the subject from an Eagles perspective. read more »
Mark Eckel interviewed another one of his nameless "personell guys" to get his thoughts on the Eagles defensive line. All in all, the anonymous football guy seemed to like most of the guys.
"I like Cole," a scout said. "He's a real good player who has gotten better every year. He works real hard. When he got there he couldn't stop the run at all, now he's not bad."
"I've always been a fan of Patterson," the scout said. "(I) loved him at USC. He's high energy. And he's productive. Some people are trying to compare Laws to him, but I don't think Laws is as good. That's just my opinion."
"I'm not nearly as big a fan of Bunkley," the same scout said. "I'm not saying he's a bad player, he's not. But I don't think he's anything special. You ask me to take one or the other and I'm taking Patterson no questions asked."

As you probably have heard, the Philadelphia Eagles released LB Takeo Spikes. Takeo is on the Howard Eskin Show as I write this and he has said some interesting things. He said the Eagles came to him last Friday when free agency started and asked if he would be willing to take pay cut. He was due to make $5M, and he was asked to take a $3M pay cut. Takeo said he slept on it and got back to Andy Reid on Saturday and told him that he wasn't going to take a pay cut. That's interesting cause Saturday was when the whole ddebacle with the depth chart happened. I actually toke a screenshot of the Eagles Website depth chart early Saturday morning cause I knew it didn't look right. The depth chart, pictured to the right, has Akeem Jordan at WLB and Omar Gaither at MLB. read more »
