The People Who Nominate For The Sports Emmys Apparently Don't Watch Sports

I've never understood how the Sports Emmys actually work and now I think we officially know that these nominators don't watch the same shows and people us Sports Fans do. The simple fact that the Pam Ward Chronicle's First Winner is nominated should make them lose all credibility.

Not all of the nominees are terrible and I would like to highlight those people here. Mainly because they have no chance of winning a Sports Emmy with the impressive list of ass-kissers they're up against. Ernie Johnson, Mike Emrick, Jay Bilas, and Marv Albert. Now you can say that they have won in the past, but when you're going up against Mainstream Favorites like Bob Costas, Bryant Gumbel, Joe Buck, and Tim McCarver.....they're not going to win again.  read more »

Let's Talk Quarterbacks

Class of 83'
Looking back, people always talk about how great the class of 1983 was for quarterbacks. Well looking back they were dominant. The big "3" Marino, Elway, and Kelly all are in the Hall of Fame. But looking closer they totally dominated the AFC. Taking into consideration the years when at least two of the big three were still in the league (a span from 1983-1998) did you know that one of these quarterbacks represented the AFC in the Superbowl a mind-boggling 10 times(Elway-5, Kelly-4, and Marino-1). Over that span only 6 times was the AFC represented by a quarterback of any other class. That is crazy success. Look even closer at their representation in the AFC Championship:

1983-None
1984-Marino(W)
1985-Marino(L)  read more »

New England Patriots Historic Season In NFL Football 2007-2008

New England Patriots are a professional mens football team that plays in the National Football League (NFL) of the United States of America. Based in the Greater Boston area, the team is a member of the Eastern Division of the American Football Conference. They were originally known as Boston Patriots, which was founded in the year 1960. It was only after the team was relocated to Foxborough in 1971 that they started playing with its current name - New England Patriots. However, sports writers and fans usually call this team with its nickname "Pats". Consecutive Wins In Super Bowls In the recent years, the team is at its peak performance. From 2001 to 2005, New England Patriots has won three Super Bowls in four years - Super Bowl 36,38, and 39.  read more »

Cheating returns just in time for Super Bowl 42

I really dislike the term "Spygate." In fact, adding the word "gate" to any supposed conspiracy or act of wrongdoing seems to trivialize news reports on such subjects. It makes them sound about as mature as all the "Bennifer" or "Bradjelina" stories we get shoved in our collective faces. Sports journalism seems to have officially fallen into the gutter along with Ryan Seacrest and the E! Channel.

I mean seriously, how else do you explain the last two days? Stories are breaking left and right that the Patriots, the supposedly greatest team since Jesus and the Disciples, have been cheating for years, and even cheated prior to winning their first Super Bowl against the Rams in 2002. All these stories breaking less than 72 hours from Super Bowl 42, where the Pats are looking to make history.  read more »

Chargers QB Rivers 'optimistic' he can play in Sunday's AFC championship game (AP)

San Diego Chargers' quarterback Philip Rivers, right, jokes with quarterback Billy Volek (7) as they leave the football field Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008 in San Diego. Rivers didn't practice Thursday. The Chargers play the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship game on Sunday, Jan 20, 2008 in Foxborough, Mass.

San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers returned to the practice field Friday and remained "optimistic" his sprained right knee would heal enough for him to play in the AFC championship game against the New England Patriots. Chargers coach Norv Turner took a more cautious approach. He listed Rivers as doubtful and said it would be a gametime decision Sunday.  read more »

Steelers were ripe ? for an upset

By BOB LABRIOLA

Steelers.com

They were confident. Very confident. And to those getting paid to pay attention, they had every apparent reason to be very confident.

?We?re just ripe,? said cornerback Tim McKyer. ?Everything is conducive for us to go out there to accomplish something great. Home field advantage, solid defense, great running game ? those are championship elements. And that?s just being realistic.?  read more »

The reality was that the 1994 Pittsburgh Steelers were the hosts for the AFC Championship Game, and they were double-digit favorites to represent the conference in Super Bowl XXIX. That reality had come about after a 12-4 regular season in which their Blitzburgh defense set a franchise record with 55 sacks and their offense had led the NFL in rushing.

2004 NFL Draft Revisited

It's been 4 years since the 2004 draft and it's about time we take a look at how that draft class turned out.  We'll also take a brief look at how the rest of the NFL faired.

I believe the 2004 Draft is what started all of the hype that has made the it what it is today.  This is due mostly to the controversy surrounding Eli Manning and the San Diego Chargers.  It was expected San Diego would select Manning with the number 1 pick.  The only problem... Eli didn't want to play for San Diego.  Eli and Archie made this very clear.  San Diego, smartly, drafted him first and promptly traded him to the Giants for Phillip Rivers and extra draft picks, which allowed them to select Shawne Merriman and Nate Kaeding, both of which have been Pro Bowl players for the Chargers.  Overall the trade worked for both teams.  The Giants got their franchise QB, and the Chargers were able to add the depth needed to become a good team.  The irony?  Manning's decision to snub San Diego helped to build them into one of the more dominant AFC teams.  read more »
