All right, football zealots. Finally, a televised NFL game (for lack of a better word). It's the Indianapolis Colts and the Washington Redskins . John Madden has been dipped in bronze gravy for this joyous occasion, and Al Michaels will be sitting on his knee. Before you follow along after the J-M-P, please turn in your signed and notarized waiver forms saying I will not be held responsible for you getting bored to death sometime in the third quarter. *** 11:01 — And Mike Hart runs to the goalline, but he's just short, and time expired. And Appalachian State holds on to w... oh, sorry. Wrong game. Well, here's the important part. We all survived the game. Furthermore, we know exactly what Brett Favre is doing right now. I thank you for not taking a drink every time they said Favre's name. Not only because it's dangerous, but because it's not creative. Ted Thompson has already been doing that for the last month. Catch y'all on the next live blog. Refresh the page on your way out, please. 10:59 — With 14 seconds left, the Colts call a timeout. 14 seconds left. They're down by two touchdowns. John Madden doesn't even consider this the preseason yet. They call a time.ou.t. 10:56 — BRETT FAVRE UPDATE: Brett Favre has actually been asleep for the last two hours. He's currently going through the rapid-eye moment phase of sleep. Stay tuned for further updates. 10:55 — Pierre Garcon returns the kickoff to midfield. I have trouble believing Pierre Garcon is an actual garon. Where's his cedille? read more »
Theres no other way to say this than the NFL Network dominated ESPN on Day One of the NFL Draft this past weekend. They scooped ESPN on just about every pick and trade and when ESPN was going to commercial, the NFL-N had every single pick live. Adam Schefter was the star of this Draft, as the predicted pick after pick while ESPNs talking heads were not even talking about the right position. Mike Mayock is arguably one of the smartest people in all of Football, and came off so much better than the bickering duo of Kiper and McShay. read more »
Not long after we posted a musing post about the Eagles and Chad Johnson, NFL Network's Adam Schefter reiterates the Bengals position since day one. No. No. No. Almost like a five-year old refusing to eat brussel sprouts. "No matter the offer," Schefter says. "No matter the circumstances. No deal."
Sure, a part of me wants the team to keep Chad and let him pout. His off-season character suicide campaign has worked so well that no matter what he says, that he'll remain the idiot -- not, ironically, the Bengals. Those tides could shift though (see below).
But another part of me wonders to what end. Keeping Chad because of over-inflated front office egos to teach a young, rich, spoiled, egomaniac wide receiver a lesson of contract loyalty, doesn't promise any benefit. I could care less for Chad anymore. He's not my concern. The Bengals are. Keep Chad and run the risk of T.J. Houshmandzadeh's prophesy coming true that it will "be a problem". Sure, it would mean giving Chad what he wants. But when he's gone, he's gone. No worries. read more »
Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports ( via PFT ) on one of the more odd NFL injuries we've heard recently. According to the report, Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall slipped and fell at his home and stuck his arm through a TV. Marshall was treated and released at a Florida hospital, where he received stitches in his arm. If he was treated and released, this is likely not an injury ... read more »
Steelers safety Troy Polamalu is known as much for the long hair that goes halfway down his back as for anything else. But Polamalu and other NFL players may soon be banned from exposing long hair on the field. Adam Schefter reported on NFL Network that the NFL's competition committee is considering a rule that would bar a player from wearing his hair long enough on the field to obscure his ... read more »
The Scouting Combine starts in a week...kind of. Officially, it starts on Wednesday, February 20, but workouts don't start until Saturday, February 23. That's according to the NFL's official site for the event.
The league certainly has the event well covered through the site. Here's the list of participants. And, with the second overall pick, this list from Mike Mayock of the top five prospects at each position is a helpful guide to some of the names we're most interested in. read more »

Alright folks, the time is upon us. ESPN's clock (that started with a day and half left) is down to under an hour. I'll be here likely through the first round (before passing out on red bull and vodkas while visions of Mel Kiper dance in my head) with photos, videos, and quote. I hope you can join in. "The intangibles are off the chart."- Kirk Herbstreit on Matt Ryan I thought intangibles are those things that can't be measured....now there's a chart for them? Here's a quick update on the new timing and schedule for the draft in case you forgot or were not aware..... Only Rounds 1 and 2 will take place on Saturday. Previously, the first three rounds of the draft were conducted on Saturday. The draft will start at 3 p.m. ET on Saturday, three hours later than the previous start time. The time allocated for each pick in Round 1 will be 10 minutes. Previously, the first round time was 15 minutes. The time allocated for each pick in Round 2 will be seven minutes. Previously, it was 10 minutes. Round 3 will be moved to Sunday and remain at five minutes per selection. (Rounds 4-7 will also remain at five minutes per pick.) Sunday, the draft starts at 10 a.m. ET, rather than 11 a.m. ET. 10 minutes per pick is a godsend, but I still wished they had started at noon. Oooh lookie there. You can have your ESPN comment featured on the broadcast. Who's going to try first? read more »
Ka-boom … it’s as if millions of voices of Jets fans suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced … (shut up, Obi-Wan)
Adam Schefter of NFL Network has reported that the Chiefs just traded Jared Allen to the Vikings for their first-round pick (No. 17) in the 2008 draft and both third-round (Nos. [...]

1. New England's schedule is soft as Cottonelle. Go ahead and try to find an early-season game in which New England will be upset. The Patriots open at home against the Kansas City Chiefs, travel to play at the New York Jets, return home for the Miami Dolphins, take their bye, then travel to San Francisco for a game versus the 49ers. What does Dick Vitale say? "Cupcake city, baby?" New England's first compelling matchup of the season finally arrives on Oct. 12 at San Diego. But the Patriots haven't lost a regular-season game since Dec. 10, 2006. They have won an NFL-record 19 straight since then. The mark easily could grow to 23. At least.
